January 18, 2426

Responding to intelligence indicating imminent and simultaneous attacks, Earth’s six greatest countries declare war on each other, marking the beginning of what would become the greatest loss of life humanity has ever seen.

Holovid Diary of Thomas Connery, Commander, Terran Republic, Discover-1

2426

Nearly half the human population died due to or because of the war. Integral parts of civilization were crippled and as many died of disease and starvation as they did from weapons and fighting.

Holovid Diary of Thomas Connery, Commander, Terran Republic, Discover-1

March 16, 2444

The space-fracture anomaly reappears. The probes examined the phenomena, sent back information, and then ceased operation as whatever was out there disappeared again, but this time the scientists aren’t left in the dark. The probes reported three possibly connected events:

  • Discovery of the wormhole
  • Destruction of Pluto the day the wormhole closed
  • Multispectral transmissions emanating from the wormhole scan Earth before closing leading to the incontrovertible proof that humanity was not the only intelligent life in the universe

Holovid Diary of Colonel Richmond Morgannis, Chief Operations Officer, Terran Republic, Discovery-1

December 19, 2444

The Great War comes to an end, due entirely to the announcement by scientists of the discovery of the wormhole, and the very real truth that suddenly humanity was not alone in the universe. With the realization that if humanity were to survive against whatever lie out there in the universe beyond they would have to do so banded together in unity, peace negations begin immediately.

Business Forward, an entity co-founded by the CEOs of some of the solar system's largest corporations, holds a summit at which the members agree to closely monitor the activity of former Terran Republic President Tom Connery.

Memo from Terrance Mattherson, CEO Genudine Multiplanetary

June 28, 2630

In a memo from Terrance Mattherson, it is postulated that Thomas Connery had indeed found evidence of extraterrestrial life in his earlier adventures and was now formulating a more serious and long term plan to recover the evidence. As a member of Business Forward, he further believes they should offer their full support of manpower and technology in order to reap the financial and other benefits such discoveries will no doubt incur.

In subsequent memos the members devise a plan to organize businesses, unions and mercenary groups together into a new conglomerate to reap the most financial benefits. Outlining their needs, and with the goal of getting the TR policies of strict controls and draconian laws off the backs of the people and businesses, the New Conglomerate is born.

May, 2634

Former Terran Republic President Tom Connery's second Moon Belt expedition returns to Earth and announces the discovery of the alien artifact. This discovery ushers in an explosion of new space exploration, leading to rapid advances in spaceflight and exploration of the solar system up to twice the distance of Pluto's remains over the next two years. However, no additional artifacts are found.

January 21, 2636

Tom Connery petitions the Terran Republic for the funds to recommission no more than two hundred space faring ships, an all-volunteer crew to man and pilot them to the wormhole and, if it’s considered safe, through it. The Senate agrees to fund the expedition. If he can raise the necessary number of volunteers by February 12, then the Senate will honor their end of the bargain and fund the repair and reconditioning of 200 ships.

Holovid Diary of Thomas Connery, Commander, Terran Republic

February 3, 2636

Nine days before the Ministers’ imposed deadline Tom Connery supplied signed affidavits containing more than 300,000 volunteers for his wormhole mission. He did so stating that he would narrow the list to a total of 75,000. To carry them on their mission he has requested 128 ships be reconditioned. A launch date of May 13, 2638, the anniversary of the Armistice, has been chosen. The Ministers unanimously approved President Connery’s request and offered him their personal congratulations. Minister Adam Miller expressed his desire to volunteer for the mission. President Connery accepted.

April 10, 2638

237 star cruisers and jumpers were ferried to the Sao Paulo spaceyard to use as parts to rebuild no fewer than 128 space-faring ships. Each final craft would be outfitted with newly calibrated engines, stabilizers, sensors, scanners, fuel hoses and crew quarters. Hundreds of technicians were brought in to analyze which were in spacefaring shape, and which would be scrapped for parts. Gettysburg was supposed to convert a fifth of the ships into hydroponic chambers in which fruits, vegetables, and grains could be grown. Dairy products would have to be artificially replicated. Water would have to be recycled from treated human waste. With only four weeks to go before the May deadline, the space journey was designed to take around 28 months, with a few weeks room depending on the shape of the slowest ships in the fleet. There would be three refueling and restocking stations as the ships made their way to Neptune. After that, they couldn’t restock goods until they reached Dosojin, Shiva, and Shangdi, the furthest three worlds in the Solar System, and the most recently discovered.

May 13, 2638

An exploratory fleet of 128 ships, crewed by 75,000 volunteers and led by former Terran Republic President Tom Connery, launches from Earth, bound for the wormhole with the intention of exploring its far side. The fleet consists of Terran Republic military peacekeepers; New Conglomerate-affiliated corporation executives with their hired enforcers and civilian labor force; and many scientists, engineers, and tech experts eager to learn more about the possibility of alien life.

July 14, 2638

2 months have passed on the fleets journey to the wormhole. Excitement about the future of Mankind abounds, but Commander Connery is still faced with an undercurrent of looming doubts and fears. Yet his realization sets the foundation of the entire trip: No matter the warnings or the doubts, no matter how inflammatory words become or how many fists are raised in resistance, mankind has never, and can never, turn from our future.

Whatever must, will occur today, but there will always be a tomorrow.

Holovid Diary of Thomas Connery, Commander, Terran Republic, Discover-1

October 20, 2640

Exactly as predicted, the wormhole reopened and the first wave of Connery's fleet fell safely on the far side of the wormhole before even engaging engines. As subsequent waves tried to pass through the wormhole destabilized and began to collapse. Ultimately, about 40,000 people, just over half of the initial force, were trapped on the far side of the wormhole in uncharted space, 200 lives are lost, 5 ships are destroyed, 11 are unsalvageable and the rest of the fleet is either destroyed in the collapsed wormhole or remained on the side with Earth.

Holovid Diary of Thomas Connery, Commander, Terran Republic, Discover-1

October 23, 2640

Meeting with fleet advisors to assess resources and plans. Final determinations were that the trapped fleet maintains a surplus of doctors and engineers, as most of the surviving ships were civilian ships, but they sustained heavy losses in military and agricultural departments. Only 3 of 23 Hydroponic ships and only 2 battle cruisers including 1,100 soldiers made it.

January 2, 2642

Alleged secret meeting between Councilman Miller and Lieutenant Commander Brent Waterson. Waterson makes clear his plan to Miller that Connery needs to step down, and a more heavy handed approach taken to the operation of the fleet. Miller is blackmailed into not saying anything and going along with whatever plan Waterson apparently has in the works.

Briefing - Conspiracy

January 3, 2642

53 insurgents break into the military weapons supply aboard the Terran Republic military ship, Explorer-5. They kill six soldiers and steal nearly 300 Cyclers. With their stolen arms, they force their way onto the ship’s bridge and demand the Captain step down and give them the ship. After failed communications, Commander Connery orders the TR to respond. The ensuing fight results in over 70 deaths, including 24 TR soldiers and several key military leaders. The insurgents are nearly wiped out.

The civilian ministers declare martial law for the fleet and take a vote among the people. The military presence is increased dramatically. The curfew is strengthened and demands everyone remain in their cabins after the 6PM dinner. Except for immediate family members, no groups larger than 3 can be together either in public or private. Desperate for peace and security, the people vote to extend military presence, and vote away their own freedom.

Commander Connery calls for a secret meeting between the civilian ministers and the military to discuss easing the restrictions to be held in 3 days.

January 6, 2642

At 9:00AM, fleet vessels were rocked by massive explosions on civilian starship Discovery-7 in what has been called “a savage act of treason by unknown agents.” The tragic destruction of Discovery-7 occurred during a previously undisclosed meeting between Mission Commander Thomas Connery, T.R. military representatives and several civilian insurgent leaders. The attacks resulted in the loss of Commander Connery as well as the lives of the other 591 on board.

Brent Waterson is instated as the new provisional commander and quickly enforces an immediate fleet-wide curfew while the council confers and determines a plan for moving forward.

Terran Republic Breaking News

January 7, 2642

A vote is again taken on security measures to be enacted. The Level 2 option giving the TR military control over all fleet ships passed by only a 2% majority vote. The measure also gives the TR military the ability to perform random searches with the intent of finding the weaponry necessary for the attack on Discovery-7. Those found possessing such weapons will be executed without trial. Furthermore, identification must be carried at all times, and curfew hours will remain in place.

Terran Republic Breaking News

January 11, 2642

Evidence of the secret meeting between Lieutenant Commander Brent Waterson and Councilman Miller is brought forward by Waterson's administrative assistant, Krysia. The evidence indicates that it was actually the TR that had something to do with the Discovery-7 destruction and not the insurgents. She offers it to the NC in return for protection and food. Negotiations for the information do not go as planned however, all involved in the meeting are presumably killed and the evidence destroyed.

Alyss Rodriguez, Deputy Director of Sigma Squad of the New Conglomerate records his squad's expedition to Hossin in his journal. His squad's mission was to reset the Hossin Rebirth Indicator and open the warpgates to Auraxian citizens. After facing heavy casualties from a Galaxy exploding in the swampy overgrowth, they are forced to proceed on foot. As Vanu proximity mines are around every corner at every checkpoint, Rodriguez and Sigma Squad are forced to watch in fear as they witness the first real deaths on Auraxis in over a decade. They had no resources to recalibrate the spawn matrix for the respawn terminals. Because of this, EOD Hud was mandatory on all Sigma Squad loadouts until they escaped. The Board contacted Sigma Squad after they received confirmation that the Hossin Rebirth Indicator had been reset and they were able to leave the continent. Rodriguez mentioned that when the Board opens up the warpgate terminals the next morning, the NC could begin taking back what was once their home.
