C-4 is a utility slot explosive available to all non-MAX infantry classes, except the Infiltrator. It is unlocked and upgraded using Certification Points.
When equipped, the player holds the C-4's detonator, rather than the bricks themselves. When thrown, C-4 bricks travel a short distance in front of the player and stick to the first non-infantry surface contacted, able to stick to vehicles and deployables. C-4 bricks can be detonated at any time, exploding to deal massive damage in a small area around them.
Players can place up to two bricks of C-4 at a time, increased up to a maximum of four bricks if the Demolitions Pouch suit slot enhancement is in use. If the player respawns after placing any bricks, all placed bricks will despawn peacefully. Accepting a revive will not remove placed C-4.
C-4 can be disarmed using the Nano-Armor Kit, removing it from the world without detonating the explosive. C-4 is also vulnerable to most types of damage, as well as EMP Grenades, all of which will detonate the explosive.
To use C-4, use Aim key ( by default) to throw a brick, and then Fire key ( by default) to detonate it. Pressing the button, after small delay, will detonate all C-4 that you have deployed.
After in-game testing, it seems like C-4 bricks have 800 health points (tested with small-arms).[Notes 1]

History[]
October 5, 2022 Update (The Lost Fleet)
- Sticky Grenades and C-4 no longer stick to spawn room shields.
- !! Husks of C4, Mines, and Ammo Packs (as well as other dynamic projectile NPCs,) no longer linger. This issue was intensified in the last update, but we've addressed the root cause which has been around for many, many years in various forms.
February 9, 2021 Update (Outfit Wars Returns)
- C4 Detonator has received a slight update.
- C4 bricks have received updated visuals.
- The C-4 detonator now has an updated model, and ARX C-4 uses an auraxium variant of this new model.
- C-4 now uses a new icon.
- C-4 now has a 0.5 second delay before the trigger press completes.
- C-4 once again shows the correct icon on the death screen.
- C4 and the Engineer's Ammunition Pack now have festive Auraximas reskins.
- Throwing and triggering C-4 is now more smooth and responsive. With the added control, we’ve also reduced its damage output against most vehicles. Two bricks of C-4 placed on a Main Battle Tank will still destroy it, but a single brick will no longer take 80% of an MBT’s life landing nearby.
- When attached to a vehicle, C4 bricks should no longer float behind it.
- Fixed an issue where C4 (and other things) could potentially damage an orbital strike uplink when it should be invulnerable (is powered and has a core).
- C-4 can now be deconstructed by Engineer Repair Tools
- Removed holiday themes from the Engineer's ammunition pack and C-4 brick.
- Improved the performance of Auraxium C4 explosions
- Infantry kills with C4/frag grenades/mines are now registered correctly.
- Rocket Launchers, Assault Rifles, and Infantry Explosives (such as C4 and Anti-Tank Mines ) have been added to the Bounty Directive.
- Fix that should make damage from C4 attached to a moving vehicle much more reliable.
- Auraxium C4 cost in now reduced by the Amerish lock benefit
- Bugs Fixed
- C4 explosive damage is effective through certain shields
- Bugs Fixed
- C4 sticking to infantry
- Infantry consumables are now purchased with Nanites. Costs of consumables have been rebalanced.
- Nanite Costs of Vehicles and Consumables:
- 75 - Revive Grenade, C4, Prox/Betty/Claymore mines
- Changed standard C4 description text and added colored text with instructions how to use.
- Ammo pack, C4, Tank Mine, Proxy Mine, Bouncing Mine - improved physics
Performance Update Number 2 (2022-12-17)
- The below explosives have had their blast damage reduced to match the Nanoweave change
- C-4: Max blast damage range reduced from 2.5 to 2.0 meters
Game Update Number 13 (2022-07-24)
- Fixed a bug causing the first C4 explosion of a gaming session to not play any audio
Game Update Number 11 (2022-06-20)
- Placed C-4 now has a visible light attached, similar to placed personal mines.
Game Update Number 10 (2022-06-05)
- Players in the rumble seat of the Harasser should no longer be able to hit the vehicle when firing with the exceptions of the repair tool and physics based projectiles (C-4, grenades, etc)
- Walking forward and right while holding out C4 will no longer cause issues
Game Update Number 4 (2022-03-13)
- Placed C4 will now despawn when the source player dies
- C4 : Increased inner blast radius by 1 meter.
Game Update Number 2 (2022-02-02)
- Purchasing the second Medic C4 cert will no longer grant every class the ability to carry an additional C4. This bug allowed a number of classes to carry more C4 than what was intended.
Notes[]
- ↑ Here is the test method to deduce C-4 health value : place a C-4 brick, then shoot it 3 times with a 200-damage weapon at point blank range. Then, shoot one more bullet : the C-4 detonates, meaning its health is 800 or below. Then, do the same thing, but fire the 4th shot right outside the maximum damage range of the weapon used : there is no detonation, meaning the minimum health of a C-4 is right above 800. The gun used for this testing was the Manticore SX40, fired at 5m for "point blank range", and at 17m for "right outside the maximum damage range", which is 15m. Date of test : July 06, 2022.
