Hornet Missiles are a wing mount weapon available to empire specific fighters. They are unlocked through purchase with Certification Points or Daybreak Cash.
Hornets are laser-guided missiles, that follow the fighter's crosshair until they hit their target. Hornet Missiles will only follow the forward-facing crosshair, and will not track the crosshair if free-look is used.
If an optic is used while Hornet Missiles are in motion, or the pilot changes weapons, the missiles will stop following the nose of the aircraft and continue in the direction they are currently pointed. Returning to the original optic/selecting the Hornets will not allow the pilot to control those missiles again.
Dev Note: These changes keep Hornets as the ESF secondaries with the highest burst potential, but the lengthened time to kill helps discourage hovering above targets for prolonged periods, pushed them more toward hit and run gameplay, and reduces their effectiveness against infantry.
The reload speed certification lines for main cannons, noseguns, ESF wing mounts, Liberator bellyguns, and Flash weapons have been standardized at 5/7/8.5/9.5/10% reload speed.
Trivia[]
Despite having 4 missiles on the weapon model, only 2 can be fired at a time.
