Desolation Bordered

Desolation is a battle island, a large planetoid located in distant space somewhere far from Auraxis. The first battle island added to PlanetSide 2, the second developed after Nexus, Desolation is made of barren, rocky, and mountainous terrain, punctuated with what few structures the people of Auraxis have erected since reaching the planetoid.

Far from Auraxis, an asteroid belt hides ancient Vanu artifacts, providing more questions than answers.

Desolation is built notably different to any Auraxian continent. Instead of warpgates, the empires base out of command centers constructed in the area of operations which are powered by Cortium, and the battle is fought over nine identical relic facilities, which generate points used to win the planetoid's alerts.

The planetoid is also devoid of no-deploy zones, allowing the free deployment of AMS vehicles and constructs anywhere on the battle island.

Restrictions[]

Desolation is only available for play during Outfit Wars tournaments that use it. Twenty minutes before a match is scheduled to begin, all eligible members of the relevant outfits will receive an in-game notification prompting them to join the battle. Confirming the notification will immediately teleport the player to their outfit's command center.

There can be as many instances of Desolation as required to meet demand for tournament matches. Each instance only allows up to 48 members of each relevant outfit—144 players in total—and instances can only be reached via the notifications sent out prior to match start.

As soon as a tournament match on Desolation ends, the instance is immediately closed and all players returned to an open warzone continent. Desolation cannot be reached outside of tournament matches.

Command Centers[]

Command Centers are Desolation's unique replacement for warpgates.

Though they are similarly each outfit's home facility—protecting them fully from damage, and remaining uncapturable throughout a battle—their functionality is notably different from a typical warpgate.

Command center terminals do not consume user's nanites to spawn vehicles. Instead, the command center features a Cortium Silo—which starts the match full of Cortium with an increased capacity of 75,000 Cortium (up from 50,000 Cortium)—and the spawning of vehicles consumes cortium from this silo. The silo can be refilled using mining equipment as normal, and is capable of powering modules and other constructs placed within the command center.

Outside of player-made Light Air Terminals or Light Vehicle Terminals, command centers are the only locations on Desolation that vehicles can be spawned, and the only place main battle tanks, Liberators, and Galaxies can be acquired.

Command centers feature a Colossus terminal, which requires the relevant war asset to spawn as normal.

Lore[]

Main article: Campaign:The Shattered Warpgate

Desolation was discovered during the events of the Shattered Warpgate campaign, reached by using the world anchor beneath the eponymous Shattered Warpgate as a teleporter.

The nature of Desolation is unclear, although it was the subject of research by the late Representative Foster who had secretly used the world anchor to send a team of scientists on a one-way trip to the planetoid. Though most died on the perilous journey, the mysterious Archivist Dolan somehow survived as some sort of phantom on Desolation—presumably due to the influence of the plantoid's numerous Vanu relics—and was later brought back to Auraxis by FL-34.
