Orion's largest star also shines brightly as a powerful, accurate LMG capable of sustained suppressing fire. Plagued by multiple redesigns during its troubled development, the third and final iteration proved itself as a favorite amongst the VS.
The Betelgeuse 54-A is the VS equivalent to the NC NC6A GODSAW and TR T9A "Butcher", with the heat-based ammo pool as its unique mechanic.
Unlike most other directive weaponry, the Betelgeuse does not come with any attachments pre-installed. However, it is also unable to equip any attachments aside from optics. The only upgrade the Betelgeuse has over the base Orion VS54 is the heat-based ammo pool.
The Betelgeuse 54-A uses a heat-based ammo pool, in contrast to the standard magazine-based ammo system most infantry weaponry uses. Heat provides a meter that fills upon firing, and dissipates when not firing.
The Betelgeuse has a heat capacity of 1000, generates 20 heat per shot, and has a recovery delay of 0.5 seconds. It dissipates 240 heat per second, and incurs an overheat penalty of 3.28 seconds.
Manually reloading the Betelgeuse is not possible.
Created to better suit carbines and assault rifles for support roles, the OG-4's simple crosshair allows the user to make accurate shots at a distance. It uses 4x magnification perfect for mid-range fights.
