PAGENAME is an ability available to the Heavy Assault. It is unlocked and upgraded using Certification Points.
The Adrenaline Shield is an Ability Slot certification of the Heavy Assault class. It is identical to the Nanite Mesh Generator except that it can be recharged by killing enemies; additional certification levels increase the amount restored to up to 20% of shield strength per kill, in contrast to the NMG where additional levels reduce the recharge time. Kills restore the Adrenaline Shield whether it is active or inactive; when inactive, the shield also recharges over time identically to the default Level 1 NMG.

  +
When activated, the adrenaline shield applies a damage absorption overshield to the user which consumes energy to absorb an equal amount of damage, using the user's own resists to dictate damage received. The shield can absorb up to 450 damage from any source, based on its energy stores, or otherwise drains naturally over 25 seconds while active. In exchange, the shield slows the user by 25% while active.
Details
The Adrenaline Shield is identical to the Nanite Mesh Generator in most ways: Both are a 700 HP shield at full strength, both cost about 43 HP of shield strength to activate, both drain at approximately 50 HP per second when active (and therefore have the same default duration), both fully block incoming damage up to the remaining strength of the shield, and neither stacks with the bonuses from Flak Armor or Nanoweave Armor when active.

  +
Uniquely, the Adrenaline Shield's energy stores are partially recharged whenever the user is awarded a kill, regardless of the overshield's state (active/inactive). The amount of energy recharged varies based on the rank of the ability, up to 25% of its total energy store (113 energy) per kill.
The difference is that Adrenaline Shield recharges with each kill of an enemy. Leveling up Adrenaline Shield increases the amount of shield recharged by each kill (from 4.5% at Level 1 up to 20% at Level 5), compared to the NMG where additional levels reduce the recharge time of the shield when inactive (from 60 seconds at default Level 1 down to 45 seconds at Level 6). Kills recharge Adrenaline Shield whether the shield is active or inactive. Note that only kills count; assists do not recharge the shield. The Adrenaline Shield also recharges over time when inactive, but only at the same rate as the default Level 1 NMG.

  +
While the overshield is active, the player's health and personal shield cannot passively regenerate.
Another significant difference is that the Adrenaline Shield has a much higher cert cost, requiring 2250 to fully cert while NMG only takes 831 to fully cert.

To activate this ability, press the Use Ability hotkey (F by default).

__TOC__
The Adrenaline Shield is advantageous relative to the NMG when sufficient kills are made to offset the increased recharge rate of the NMG. From a purely theoretical standpoint, when fully certed, the Adrenaline Shield needs just one kill per 36 seconds to offset the recharge rate advantage of the fully certed NMG. For almost all players, this is a clear advantage over the NMG.

Effects
  +
The Adrenaline Shield has a capacity of 450 energy and regenerates 12.5 energy per second while not in use, with a 3000ms (3 second) delay incurred before regeneration begins if the shield's energy is emptied. Activating the overshield immediately consumes 25 energy before burning 18 energy per second.

  +
In simple terms, this means the overshield can typically sustain up to 425 damage thanks to the activation penalty, lasting up to 23.6 seconds if no damage is taken, and regenerates passively in up to 39 seconds.
Pragmatically, the Adrenaline Shield also has a time value advantage over NMG, therefore providing benefits both situationally and depending on playstyle. For example, when an HA with fully certed Adrenaline Shield activates it while engaging an enemy, taking damage but eventually killing the enemy, the HA immediately gets up to 20% shield strength restored. Had the HA been using NMG, the HA would have to deactivate NMG and wait for it to restore to get to the same shield strength. This gives Adrenaline Shield a huge advantage when engaging multiple enemies or in multiple consecutive engagements.

  +
Similar to the Nanite Mesh Generator, the Adrenaline Shield is subject to the most of the same damage modifiers as the user. It will sustain additional damage from headshots, less from legshots, and will receive less damage if the user is enjoying damage reduction effects such as the Flak Armor suit. Nanoweave Armor, specifically, will not have its damage reduction effects applied to overshields, however.
Additionally, Adrenaline Shield can recharge to full capacity without needing to deactivate and activate again (therefore not requiring the initial ~43 HP activation cost).

  +
As with other overshields, Adrenaline Shield also reduces the user's base movement speed by 25% by active. Assuming the user has the standard movement speed of 4m/s, this reduces their movement speed to 3m/s. This does not affect crouch, strafe/backpedal, or sprint modifiers, which continue to multiply the user's current movement speed by 0.5x, 0.75x, and 1.625x, respectively.
On the other hand, NMG may be advantageous to newer players who do not kill enemies frequently enough or do not have the certs to gain a high level of Adrenaline Shield. For example, compare Level 2 Adrenaline Shield (requiring 350 total) to the level 5 NMG (requiring just 331 total). Since Level 2 Adrenaline Shield only restores 6% of shield strength per kill while level 5 NMG fully restores a shield in 48 seconds, now a kill every 14.4 seconds is needed to offset the difference, likely making Adrenaline Shield not worthwhile at this level of certification. At Level 3 Adrenaline Shield with 10% shield restoration per kill (750 total) vs max level 6 NMG (831 total), still one kill is needed every 18 seconds. At Level 4 Adrenaline Shield vs max level NMG, the time per kill drops to 27 seconds, likely making Level 4 the first level of Adrenaline Shield where there is a clear advantage for most players.

  +
The final notable effect of the Adrenaline Shield is its recharge-on-kill effect. Being awarded a kill on an enemy player, regardless of method, instantly recharges a portion of the shield's energy pool. This effect will trigger regardless of whether or not the overshield is active, even if it is empty (although it will not cause passive regeneration to skip the empty delay, if relevant).
The advantage of Adrenaline Shield may also be reduced for players who are less aggressive and choose their engagements with a slower playstyle.

Adrenaline Shield

Adrenaline Shield is an ability available to the Heavy Assault. It is unlocked and upgraded using Certification Points.

Uniquely, the Adrenaline Shield's energy stores are partially recharged whenever the user is awarded a kill, regardless of the overshield's state (active/inactive). The amount of energy recharged varies based on the rank of the ability, up to 25% of its total energy store (113 energy) per kill.

While the overshield is active, the player's health and personal shield cannot passively regenerate.

To activate this ability, press the Use Ability hotkey (F by default).

Effects[]

The Adrenaline Shield has a capacity of 450 energy and regenerates 12.5 energy per second while not in use, with a 3000ms (3 second) delay incurred before regeneration begins if the shield's energy is emptied. Activating the overshield immediately consumes 25 energy before burning 18 energy per second.

In simple terms, this means the overshield can typically sustain up to 425 damage thanks to the activation penalty, lasting up to 23.6 seconds if no damage is taken, and regenerates passively in up to 39 seconds.

The table below shows the amount of energy, as a percentage of the energy tank and as a raw value, restored whenever the user earns a kill.
